What is Networking and Why is it Important in Business

When I began my networking journey, I attended any and all networking events as time permitted. Every event was fair game! Today I am much more strategic in my networking endeavors. I discovered which events and organizations gave me the best return on my investment of time as well as how to be an effective, caring networker.
In order to know where to begin you must first understand what networking is and why it is important to grow your business. Networking in its purest form is simply talking to people, making connections and developing rapport to grow our circle of influence. Business networking is essentially the same except that our primary objective in business networking is to help us grow our businesses. For most of us, building a network means meeting people we can do business with or who will do business with us, or refer people who will do business with us, are our ultimate goals.
In fact, some of the best networks are those created by people who own and run their own businesses. When you create valuable networking relationships, you build them on a foundation of mutual trust, sharing knowledge, experiences and resources to help one another grow your businesses by either referring one another or doing business directly with one another.
It works like this: If you do a good job, one customer might tell three to five of her colleagues, family and friends about you. Whereas, when you build a network of say 10 to 20 strong advocates, they may each tell only one person about your, however your "exposure" is now more than doubled - With the right network, the ultimate in "word of mouth" marketing takes place. You promote your network, and your network promotes you.
Have you ever attended a BNI or Le Tip or other form of structured networking groups? Perhaps you are already a member of a similar group. If not, you might consider becoming involved in one to the fastest growing business networking concepts around. These groups invite business professionals to join on an exclusive basis. That means, that if you are a chiropractor and become a member of one of these groups, no other chiropractor will be invited or allowed to join.
These groups have regularly scheduled meetings (anywhere from monthly to weekly) with a list of rules and objectives to which you must abide. In some cases, a minimum number of referrals is required to participate. In others, simply doing business with one or more in the network is all that is asked of he members. However, keep in mind that for this type of networking to be worthwhile for all parties, each must make every effort to do business with other members of the group.
If this form of structured networking isn't for you, there are other options for finding potential networking venues and partners. Here are some ideas to help you on your way to networking success.
a. Develop a joiners mentality. By that I mean, don't just sign up to get our name on a roster. REALLY JOIN. Get involved. Participate in discussions, events and BE VISIBLE. The saying "out of sight, is out of mind," holds true when it comes to networking. I have been involved in groups and decided to take a hiatus from attending for 2 to 3 months (and sometimes more) only to have people come up to me and tell me they forgot the name of my business so they had to find someone else either through a friend or through the local phone book. BUMMER!
b. Attend networking functions. These can include Chambers of Commerce meetings, after hours socials, ad hoc committees and special events task forces.
c. Get involved in a community service group such as Kiwanis, Lions, Jaycees, etc.
d. Volunteer with a non-profit organization, whose mission you are passionate about and believe in. People who have similar passions will want to do business with you.
e. Host events - I started an event called Goddess Gatherings more than 2 years ago in my home. It is an intimate gathering of women (8 max.) who share a common interest and/or wish to expand their own circles. I invite women who do not yet know one another although they may be familiar with their names. These women are women in my circle of influence either directly or indirectly (they are either members of the 22 groups I belong to and attend regularly or they are part of a circle within these groups). I might invite a "surprise" guest who can entertain the women - such as a masseuse or tarot card reader- or feature a business such as a jeweler or make-up artist. This helps make for a memorable evening and the women either start their own Gathering or look forward to being invited to another gathering hosted by either myself of one of the women in attendance.
f. Look for ways to cross-promote with businesses that complement yours. For instance, a spa might join with a health food store or restaurant and promote their products and services for staying healthy. A salon might join a florist to promote weddings or proms and a realtor might join with a mortgage broker to promote a "one-stop" experience for home buyers.
g. Interview others. A great way for me to network is to interview women for projects I am working on. Since most people are flattered when you ask their opinion about something or experiences in life, this has been a great means of increasing my own circle for various reasons. I might interview a woman (or even a man) about an article or book I am writing, or a seminar I am developing. People love to share their stories. I tape the interview (with their permission, of course) and give them a copy afterwards. It helps to have a list of questions ready prior to the interview, however, unless they insist, I don't give them the questions ahead of time. I have done these interviews via phone, email as well as in person. Many of the women have since.
h. Join an online business or social networking community such as MeetUp, Ryze, Max-in-Common, Linkd In, Open BC, to name a few,. These groups have subgroups made up of people with a specific focus and similar interests. Or you can join a non-specific group to gain more knowledge, exposure and contacts.
Make a point of attending one new networking event a month just to "check it out." Make a list of the people you know, the organizations you have heard and read about and the companies who currently do business with you. These are all great resources to tap into to find new venues to network. Get the local newspaper and look at the organizations and businesses hosting events to which the public is invited. Attend them.
The best networking begins with planning and taking action. Being strategic in your planning is important to your ultimate success as an effective, caring networker.

3 Reasons Business Networking Helps Relationship Marketing

Business networking is the ultimate way to begin the Relationship Marketing process. Why? Because you are dealing with people directly and have an opportunity to make a good impression, followed by tons of positive reinforcement.
We know that word of mouth marketing is the strongest of all time and because of its direct effect, it and Relationship Marketing run strong parallels.  Consider the scenario in which you meet a potential client face to face while business networking. From that point, you develop a business-client relationship as your new prospect becomes a paying customer. Afterward and through time, you employ Relationship Marketing strategies which keep your client happy and satisfied.
One of the strong factors in this scenario is that you were able to meet this client face to face, initially. This sped up the marketing process.  So, you can see that using business networking for client acquisition is very effective in this example.
If you have a long-term Relationship Marketing strategy, business networking puts you ahead of other marketing methods. Here are 3 reasons to support this;
1. Potentially faster transitions from prospect to client.
People tend to trust a live smiling face faster than an advertisement or even a voice on the phone. Because of this, the conversion from a prospect to a client can happen faster because of rapid trust. If you have marketed yourself professionally and established some credibility, the overall process will be less complicated.
2. A lack of evasion over time.
If you have a good Relationship Marketing strategy in place over time and you incorporate personal visitation, your clients will be less apprehensive to offering input, which is valuable to your operation.  Psychologically, a person feels more obligated when they are dealing with a person that they have come into direct contact with several times.
3. A stronger foundation.
Typically, an in-person relationship has stronger pillars to stand on than a long distance type. Relationship Marketing is all about continued communication and interaction through a period of time. When you have incorporated one-on-one meetings into your strategy, each encounter strengthens your bond.  The point from the initial encounter to the strong relationship is shortened because of the initial live meeting.

Network Marketing Business - How To Stay Focused And Disciplined All The Time

Many people believe that a network marketing opportunity can provide a short cut route to success and financial freedom. The harsh reality is that there is no such thing as an easy way to financial freedom and prosperity. The whole process requires a great deal of focus and discipline through every stage of the business building strategy.
You might ask what the main elements of successful network marketing business are. The answer is to develop a long term strategy for your business. This does not mean that you cannot enjoy any short term victories, but you should be focused on acquiring the long term business building mindset.
You must not even imagine that there will be an abundance of instant riches. However, it can be possible to dream about great wealth. Therefore, you must avoid being lured with the promise of fabulous riches from day one.
Network marketing is not a walk in the park, it is in fact like taking part in a marathon. You should also know what your long term goals are. Your long term goals are also determined by your short term goals which are also achieved on your way to the desired targets.

How Business Networking Be Best Achieved By Social Networking

Any offline business considers business networking as one of the important activities as it helps you to socialize among your business fellows and let you strengthen your relationships with new suppliers. A strong business network can help you to find new products and services by sharing views and thoughts with associates and the indirect competitors. As an entrepreneur you can also grab ample of sale queries from your current and potential customers. As social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and in existence the activities of network businesses are becoming simpler, easier, cheaper, and the best part more interesting. This article will help you to learn how social networking sites can help you to boost your networking activities up to 200 % with a rapid speed.
What you can give to your business by social networking
Primarily, whichever is the category your target market, industry, field or the niche of your business is, you need to have relationship in the filed with others so as to enhance your circle. In this world of blurted boundaries and globalization only a few business never think to have websites where the participants can share views and ideas about their problems, references and the other aspects of doing businesses. If these relationships in the industry of your business are helpful to you in the past, just visualize how much more valuable they can be to your business if they also become the feeder of list of contacts that can be converted into the leads for your future success.

Don't Let Business Networking Control Your Life

Getting into too many networking groups can leave you high and dry in terms of having a life and all your money spent. You need to have a balance when you join networking groups. There are so many groups out there that you can spend all week long and your entire profit attending events.
Do your research.
Check out ALL of the networking groups out there. Do a Google search, check out Meet Up, Get on Linked in and check out the area Chamber of Commerce. (You can belong to any chamber, you don't have to live or work there.)
Attend event / meetings
Attend one or two of the events or meeting that these groups are holding. Most will let you be a guest a time or two before joining. Take notes at these events and do some follow up with other members in that group. This will give you a good feel about how the group runs and if it is a good fit for you and your company.
Choose wisely
Choose 2 - 3 groups that you can commit to, but always be on the lookout for other groups. The groups that you join should have regular meetings. Chose one that is weekly and at least on other one that is monthly. Have one group be on the smaller side of attendees (10 - 20) and the other one is a large gathering (30+). Make sure that there are several different industry represented in each group. Have one of the groups that you attend be industry exclusive.
Get Involved
Going to regular meetings will give you the contacts and the business relationships that you will need to grow your business. But do more than just go to the meetings. If being a leader is a daunting task for you, start with doing One on Ones with the members of the group and find out how to promote them. Find out from the leader what they are struggling with in the group and see if you can help.
Find the right people
Find out who the movers and shakers are in that group that attends a lot of networking events and get to know them well. This will help free your time to do your work and not get tied up going to all of the meetings. These people are your cheerleaders and will help you do the work for you. Get with them regularly outside the meetings too.

Business Networking - The ABC's - The Letter 'B'

One of the challenges of developing the ABCs of business networking, is that there is not any one word in any letter that can encompass what you try to say.
As with the letter 'A' article, I am going to have to use more than one word to talk about the 'B's'.
The words were going to cover today are: Branding, Boldness, Business, Brevity and Breathing.
Let's start with the least likely of the 'B' words. Breathing! You might want to ask why would I would put breathing in as an important word for business networking. The reason is simple, as a public speaker I have seen speakers as well as business people fail to create a good impression, because they are nervous. One of the best ways to overcome nervousness, and to settle your nerves in an uncomfortable situation is to breathe. It may seem like a trifle yet, learning how to breathe effectively can make all the difference to your success as a networker.

Keys To Success - Business Networking

One of the primary reasons to invest time and effort into business networking is to get more business. Yet, for many the outcome of greater business remains elusive.
Business Networking - How To Get More Business
As a personal business coach one of the first things I ask a potential client, whether it be a self - employed small business owner or a corporate manager or executive, is if they are doing any business networking. Most of them will tell me that they do some business networking.
The main reason they do business networking is to get more business. When I ask how successful it has been the answers range from very successful to virtually no success at all.
How come one person has great success and another doesn't. Is one's product or service in greater demand? Possibly, but very often it has nothing to do with that.
Business Networking - Success Is About How You Fish
For a moment visualize a business networking event as a big pond with many fish. You have come together with a group of other people and all of you are fishing in the same pond. Some of you will catch fish, prospects, referrals and customers. And most of you will put your bait on a hook and come up with nothing.
What's causing the difference in results? It could be the pond you are in. Maybe the fish you are swimming with aren't ideal for you or your business. But, more often than not it is not the fish in the pond that is the problem.
The problem is how you are choosing to fish in that pond. Especially for small business owners seeking more small business growth and success how you fish is a critical determinant in your results.
Running a small business is a big enough challenge to your time and energy without engaging in business networking that is not producing positive results. So if the pond of your business networking is not yielding the results you desire, yet appears to be a good pond, then you must change the way you fish in the pond.
Business Networking - It's About The Human Being And Not The Human Doing
How do you catch a fish? It's easy. You give him some bait where he wants to bite on your hook. The best hook you have is you. It's not your business. It's not your service. It is who you are. Most people when you engage them do not need your product or service.
The key is that they certainly may need it at some point in time in the future. The goal is to start building a relationship with them based on who you are, not what you do. In the end they will do business with someone they know, like and trust.
The key to successful business networking is to get beyond the human doing, your business, and let others get to know the human being. Focus on learning about who someone else is. Reveal to them more about yourself. It will give you and them many more reasons to build a solid relationship.
Focus on the human being, not getting business. And, the last part is the most important. If you have business networking functions every month attend them regularly. Even if business is good and you feel too busy attend them regularly.
Great relationships aren't built with intensity but with regular contact over a period of time. Be consistent in showing up and persistent in building your relationships. When you approach business networking as an essential marketing activity focusing on human beings instead of human doings you will start catching a lot more fish in your pond and even greater small business, large business and personal success.

Business Networking in Tunbridge Wells

The spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is not only a great place to visit as a tourist attraction, but is also a terrific location for businesses. Located just 50mins from London Charing Cross by train, and only 25mins from the M25, it is a town truly set in the heart of the South East of England. Pegged along the border of west Kent, the town is unique in its provision of services and retail opportunities not only to its local residents, but also to the many neighbouring towns and villages throughout west Kent and East Sussex. This makes for a great business networking hub in Tunbridge Wells as well as a great place to establish your business, or even open an extra branch.
The Royal Victoria Place shopping centre, opened by Diana the Princess of Wales and located at the top of the town, accounts for around 30% of all jobs in the area. Despite the construction of Bluewater shopping centre in east Kent, Royal Victoria Place remains one of the county's most loved and favoured shopping centres, attracting thousands of consumers every year. Tunbridge Wells also boasts an impressive and developing out of town retail park, which in recent years has attracted significant investment from big name retailers such as John Lewis. With both a retail park, and a significant shopping centre at the heart of the business community, Tunbridge Wells has both a thriving and rapidly developing business community, underpinned and largely driven by successful business networking.
There are a number approaches available to business networking in Tunbridge Wells, one of which being through so-called business referral networks. These organisations, some of which are international and boast thousands of members, typically permit only one member from each commercial sector of the local business community to join. In exchange for membership, businesses are typically required to attend weekly networking meetings to report and discuss their services with other members in an effort to help 'cross-pollinate' services. Members are actively encouraged (and required) to promote the services of their fellow members when given the opportunity to, and in this way the true power of business networking, and in particular business referral networks, come into their own.
Tunbridge Wells also offers members of the business community other networking opportunities in addition to joining one of the many referral networks in the area. Regular networking events are held, typically in one of the many fine hotels or conference venues throughout the town, a good few of which are open to anyone attending. These can be great opportunities not only to advertise and promote your services, but also to chat to other members of the business community in the Tunbridge Wells area, gain advice and make valuable contacts.

They may be able to help your business now, or maybe you'll do business with them in the future, or maybe you'll just need them for a small deal. Whatever the reason, it pays to network! Having this group is very useful.
1. Don't Discriminate
The number one tip to networking is not to discriminate. Don't be rude or less than polite to a person just because you feel you'll never need them. In the business world, you never know when you'll need to contact people from all walks of life and from various businesses. So just make as many contacts as you can regardless of their job description.
2. Go to Parties
When you are networking, you can't be a wallflower. Go to parties whenever you're invited. It's a great way to meet people and to expand your network. Remember to be social. Introduce yourself first if necessary.
3. Do Favors
Strengthen the ties of your network by doing favors for people. When you do someone a favor, they will appreciate it and be more willing to help you out if you ever need the help. Many businesses on the verge of failing have been saved by some person the business owner helped out once upon a time. So do good, it will always be to your benefit!
4. Get in Touch with Old Friends
People you went to high school and college with can be very important people in your network. You never know who may have ended up in a job that will complement your business or what you're doing. It's an added bonus that you have history with the person, this can make it easier to work with them. So check in with some old friends once in a while and see what opportunities you can find there.
5. Have an Online Personality
The Internet is such a powerful tool for business. It literally connects you and your business to the rest of the world. Having an online personality or some form of online presence can do wonders! You can expand your network globally. Plus, you don't have to do all the work. Now that they know how to find you, many other businesses will be sending you letters and

Business Networking - The ABC's

People have often asked me what I consider the ABC of networking are.
Interestingly, the ABCs I tend to pick have little to do with the process of networking, but more to do with the WHY, WHO, WHERE and WHEN.
To that end, I'm going to give you my ABCs with a brief explanation of some of the words and why I choose these above all others.
A - Aptitude, Attitude, Attention, Action and Ask. These are all powerful, 'A' words which are important in business networking. You need to have a strong attitude to take action and and create an aptitude for asking the right questions.
B - Business, Branding and Brevity. These 'B' words are all about being focused on the Brand you're trying to put forward, keeping it brief and ensuring that you're always about business.
C - Commitment, Communication, Connection, and Clarity. Commitment is a very strong part of good business networking. It allows you to create powerful connections, while communicating with absolute clarity... this shows you the power of the 'C's'.
D - Dedication, Determination and Diplomacy. In business networking, you have to have a very determined mindset. Always be diplomatic, but always be determined in achieving your target or goal.
E - Enthusiastic, Empathic, Emotive and Engaging. When networking, you need to be focused on creating a strong connection. You need to show your enthusiasm by being engaging and empathic while using emotive language to get your point across.
F - Friendly, Focused and Fun. Even though you are focused on achieving connections. The more fun, you create in the process, the more friendly you will appear to the people you're meeting.
G - Goals, Gratitude and Give. One of the key elements of business networking is giving, but in giving you need to make sure you do so with gratitude. And that you are focused on achieving your specific goals in helping others.
H - Happy, Host and Helpful. The 'H's' in networking, a very important. When you are a networking function always act like a host be as helpful as you can be to assist others to feel more comfortable. In doing so, you'll feel a lot happier, and they will also be happy to meet you and be happy to be at the function.
I - Interested, Ideas and Innovative. One of the keys to business networking is showing people that you have innovative ideas and are interested in them and their business. You might just be the key to their future success
J - Jovial, Just and joyful. These seem to be rather interesting words to use in a business networking context. However, if you don't have an attitude of joy and a sense of joviality and is very difficult to accept the judgement of others. Despite what other people think we must always have a just attitude to people and their ideas.
K - Knowledgeable, Kudos and Keen. These tend to speak for themselves. When talking to another person it is always appropriate to give them kudos for any achievements that they will tell you about. It is important that we show that we have a knowledgeable understanding of their business, and if we don't, that we have a keenness in learning more from them.
L - Likeable, Listen, Learning and Laughter. The 'L' words cover some important aspects. We must always listen, if we are going to learn about our contact. Being able to laugh with them and show that we are likeable, is an important step in creating this relationship.
M - Motivation, Mentoring and Managing. When going to a networking function. It is important that we take a role of motivator and mentor, particularly to those who are new to business networking. But we must always be mindful to manage our connections, and our goals when we are at an event.
N - Noticeable, New and Nuances. It is key at all networking functions to make sure that we are noticed, one of the best ways to do that is to always offer something new and listen and look to the nuances in the reactions of the people we are talking to. These are the clues to building a strong connection.
O - Openness, Open-Minded and Opportunities. These words are very obvious. We must always show that we are open to other people, and that we're open minded to their ideas and also to their opportunities.
P - Positive, Present, Passionate and Profitability. One of the true keys in networking is to be always be present, in the moment, with the person you're talking to. Your passion and your positive attitude will lead you closer to creating a profitable relationship once you take your connection to the next step.
Q - Question, Quirky and Questing. Whenever you're with any group of people, it is important to ask appropriate questions. Often these questions can be quirky and fun, because this gives the recipient an idea that you are questing for more than just the standard answers.
R - Reciprocity, Real and Rapport. Business networking is about developing a reciprocal arrangement with someone else. If you're honest and real, you will find it very easy to build rapport with that person. Once this is done, you will find that developing a reciprocal arrangement becomes easier.
S - Sincere, Succinct and Silent. People often say, silence is golden. it is important that when you ask a question, keep it succinct, and then let the person answer the question. By allowing others to complete what they have to say reflects on your sincerity.
T - Tenacious, Thorough and Transparent. At a networking function, you need to be tenacious to your goal. Be thorough in the methods that you use, but always be transparent in your dealings with people.
U - Uniqueness, Useful and Understanding. One of the real opportunities when networking is to be able to show how useful and unique your business can be and how you can help others achieve success. By making an attempt to understand their business, you can show them how useful, you can be to them.
V - Visibility, Versatility and Value. Stepping out at a networking function is all about visibility. In the process, you need to show people that you have value and versatility to be able to assist them in their business.
W - Welcoming, Warm and Worthy. When meeting anyone, it is important to be welcoming and warm in your approach. You need to prove that you are worthy of their time and their interest.
X - Xanadu and Xenophile. I bet you didn't think there were any x-words. Treat every networking event, like your personal Xanadu. All networking events are special places. Also it is important to be a Xenophile. This means that you are prepared to embrace everything that's new and look at differences in people and businesses to be able to help them.
Y - You and Yes. You are the most important person at a networking function. It is important that you embraced the concept of saying yes to as many things as you can and be able to move any and every relationship forward for your and their success.
Z - Zeal and Zest. Zest is like passion and energy. It is important to show both at a networking function. You're zeal on the other hand, is your attitude and your focus.

Benefits Of Business Networking Groups Exclusively For Women

Just as it is for men in the business world, for women, life is just as hard and some would say somewhat harder. I've launched a new business venture and know exactly how hard the small business enterprise can be to get off the ground.
I'm a passionate believer in business networking because my business has grown as a result, in fact I've seen so much power in word of mouth marketing that I know run my own business networking clubs in the area where I live.
Exclusive women only business networking groups are becoming more and more common but does it really make sense? After all the basis of business networking is that you want to convey your business services to fellow networking partners so that they can refer clients to you, so why would you want to cut your audience in half by restricting it just to women?
Many women feel more comfortable in an all woman environment and actually get to trust other networking partners much quicker. There's evidence to suggest that women network better than men because women focus more on the relationship building whereas men will focus on the end result of getting the referral. Having both networking partners in line is surely bound to deliver a faster and more powerful result.

Why Business Networking Groups Fail To Attract New Members

As a business owner I'm always on the lookout for new ways to promote my business and get my name out there. I'm a passionate believer in business networking because my fundamental belief is that business is won in most cases by word of mouth recommendation or referral. OK, I'll stretch it a little because word of mouth also means by keystroke too as more and more of us take to the social networking airwaves.
Through a business contact I had the opportunity to take up a guest slot at a business networking group, a new one that competed with my regular business networking Blackburn chapter but hey, one doesn't have to always remain with one group and I think it's important to reach out continuously and meet new people.
First impressions count and when I walked through the door into the meeting I was greeted by... nobody! Great start. Being familiar with business networking I decided to jump in with both feet and I'm glad I did otherwise I think that I would have stood around drinking coffee ad nauseam.
The meeting started and we each did our 60 seconds which was interesting but what the interesting part of the meeting as far as I was concerned was the discussion which was about how to market the group. Great, I thought, right up my street, maybe I could give them a few pointers about how to build relationships on line - something that is core to the business services that I offer.

Do You Avoid Business Networking Events

Do you avoid business networking events at all costs? Do you tell yourself that networking just isn't your thing? Do you see networking strictly as the domain for the confident or extrovert?
Well if the answer is yes to any of these questions read on and you might be pleasantly surprised to find out that business networking could provide you with a goldmine of opportunity, one which you could tap into more easily than your think.
Let's dispel some myths first:
Myth 1: Networking is only for those who like to talk....wrong!
In fact those who like to talk about themselves at the expense of listening to others are actually probably the worst networkers. Business networking is all about relationship building with others in order that they can get to know, like and trust you. Those who talk and do not listen do two things: they fail to understand the needs of those they are talking to and secondly end up boring the other person. This is not a good start to building up relationships.
So if your strength is listening rather than talking you are already one step ahead of the game.

Affiliate Marketing Business - Networking Online for Success

If you have been thinking about ways to make money online, you probably have been looking at a number of different methods and wondering how any of them can possibly result in profits. For example, many people attempt to sell products online, but when they look at the competition, they realize that making even a minimal profit is more trouble than it's worth. One interesting idea that has attracted some of the most innovative businesspeople on the web, however, is the affiliate marketing business. Simply put, this is the business of networking. This business is all about driving people to your website and to the site of your supplier or promoter. Here is how it works.
To begin your affiliate marketing business, your first step should be to find a reliable guide. The truth of the matter is that if you want to get involved in any kind of business at all, it is necessary that you first receive an education. Some business people are going to tell you that you need to gain experience, and that experience is much more important than education, but this is not necessarily true. Both education and experience are important. Most valuable educational resources are based on people's experiences, so in a sense you can learn from the experience of others. This is a great way to minimize the money you spend and the time you waste trying to develop your business.

Five Business Networking Tips

Many people take business networking for granted. While some businesses do just fine without it, most of these businesses would flourish much better with it. Networking involves building contacts from all sorts of backgrounds.

Five Tips For Successful Business Networking

Business Networking remains an excellent way to increase contacts, sales prospects and your customer base. These five tips for successful business networking serve as a quick reinforcement or reminder for some, and a valuable guide for those business owners who are new to the realities and benefits of business networking. Business networking is all about developing links to individuals, building relationship that can be trusted and becoming an active promoter for those in your network. Full circle networking, i.e., success, occurs when your links become active promoters of you and your company. Can you say Reciprocation? Many elements of today's online social media and interactive websites involve part of what makes good business networking successful. Social media is a good thing and should be a part of your networking. The benefits of live networking mixed with proper use of social media are many.
Here are my five tips for successful business networking.
  1. Research, Focus and Target Research and visit several networking groups. Don't waste time with groups that will not provide the type of connections your business needs. Target the right groups and the correct people and opportunities within the groups. Targeting is important if you intend on getting what you need, reaching your contact goals. Find the right size group. Large groups require a lot of work, a lot of time to work properly. Do you have the energy and time?
  2. Be the Real Thing If you're not genuine when entering into new networking relationships and do not reciprocate and actively promote those in your network - the gigs up. Also, remember the Golden Rule, "Do unto others, as you'd have them do unto you." Be professional not a bothersome bore. Find groups and people you enjoy, people who are fun to be with. It makes being yourself more comfortable. Also sharing someone you really like with others (remember - you're their active promoter) so much easier.
